Mental health in the workplace training
Good mental health in the workplace is vital for a happy, healthy and high performing workforce. At byrne·dean, we believe it’s best to lay the foundations for mental wellbeing as early as possible by building healthy habits and practices into your teams. Our mental health training can be used as a prevantative measure or as a way to make lasting improvements to workplace mental health and wellbeing that has started to deteriorate. If you want to help your people feel motivated and engaged at work, we can help. Get in touch today.
Research has shown that:
- the most effective organisations are the ones that have quality conversations
- company culture has a much bigger influence on employee wellbeing than salary and benefits
- motivation at work is largely impacted by our feelings of connection to others
Our human conversations sessions get to the heart of what really changes workplace culture. All of our work at Byrne Dean comes down to the quality of our conversations and in this programme we distil and explore the key elements of what we bring to conversations, and how to make them impactful. The core session is a standalone reflective session which is aimed at all staff but is a must for leaders and managers. We then build on that core learning with a series of add on sessions that look at human conversations in any number of different contexts and subject matters – for example menopause, race, neurodiversity, change and more.
Licensed and accredited by MHFA for England, these MHFA sessions are an internationally recognised set of courses delivered by a trained, quality assured byrne·dean facilitator. They teach people how to spot the signs and symptoms of mental ill health and provide help on a first aid basis, teaching participants to listen, reassure and respond, even in a crisis. There are a number of sessions available:
- Mental Health Aware – half day
- MHFA Champions – 1 day
- Mental Health First Aid – 2 day
- MHFA Refresher – half day
- Suicide First Aid: Aware – half day
- Suicide First Aid: Understanding Suicide Intervention – 1 day
Participants will learn what stress is, the various warning signs and how to recognise them. It gives individuals tools to create a feeling of calm and diffuse becoming overwhelmed.
Leaders’ set the tone - they are culture cultivators who are crucial in creating psychological safe environments that reduce stigma around mental health and foster openness and connectivity. Building on our foundation session above, this session focuses on leaders’ roles and responsibilities around mental health, how to have better conversations, listen effectively, and spot warning signs.
You may need to start with the basics. We’ll engage with your people in a safe and encouraging way, and present learning through the lens of the corporate, professional world so it’s relevant and resonates. Participants will leave this foundation session with:
- increased knowledge around mental health including the impact of poor mental health, and some common conditions
- increased confidence and skills for having conversations about mental health at work
- greater insight in how to look after themselves
Improving the mental health of your people is about much more than training and providing supports for those that are feeling distressed. Research shows that the most impactful work employers can do is to reduce the workplace contributors to poor mental health and that the greatest returns on investment are obtained when employers engage in sustained cultural change.
Our best work is done when we focus at this level, and our work promoting and developing the Mindful Business Charter through its early years gives us a unique perspective and insight. Whether it be engaging with you to design a mental health strategy for your business, or helping you respond to a crisis, we bring all our experience and insight into making a real difference.
We are emotionally intelligent, expert facilitators who understand the pressures of modern business.
We have a deep understanding of workplace behaviour and wellbeing issues, shaped from our careers working in, and alongside, leading organisations around the world. We also have lived experience of poor mental health. We share our first-hand experiences of the relationship between the two.
